Back In The Good Old Days….

July 22, 2011 in Notices

Ever wonder just what exactly those kids away at camp are up too??  Check out this link to a video from 1955 that I found.  It’s definitely worth the wait to download and watch it.  It’s in black and white, has no sound, is kinda jittery at times like the camera guy had at least one too many cups of coffee but it’s hysterical!!  It shows the kids actually driving the military vehicles which is something I as a parent am glad that they don’t do anymore.

I also came across some funny photos from 1949 Vernon RCAC cadets.  It shows you that as much as things have changed, things have also stayed the same!

These kids are on a signal course in Vernon even though I swear they look like they're on Safari in Africa somewhere. I love that the hats are nearly identical to the ones they wear now except for the pointy bit at the top!!

This is also from cadets on a signal course. Things weren't exactly wireless back then...

This one is my personal favorite -- Tug of War!

They apparently taught them how to get stuck as well as unstuck by winching.

They were taught how to drive various heavy equipment like this Caterpillar in the days before insurance was considered "important"!

Summer Camp Information

June 7, 2011 in Cadets Canada, Notices, Training

Airdrie Army Cadets going to camp this summer should check the camp Joining Instructions at the Cadets Canada Website.  For most cadets, your first camp will be at the Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Center.  The travel orders should be sent out soon.  On June 15 questions will be answered.  Please make sure your cadet has ALL their proper uniform to attend summer camp, this WILL be the last day to get kit.

Camp spots are still trickling in…so check your email regularly, Capt. Mark  will be calling or emailing you with details if you get in at the last minute.

If you have any questions, please talk to Capt. Mark.

Please let Capt Mark know if you are going to be absent

May 13, 2011 in Notices

Please make sure to let Capt Mark know if you are going to be absent from Airdrie Army Cadet events.

Attendance is taken at all cadet events. This is kept track of in the DND Fortress system and affects things like Summer Camp placement (done at head office) and promotions. Please make sure to let Capt. Mark know if you are going to be absent because just like school, and excused absence is much better than “just didn’t show up”.
