The pipes and drums training seems to be going quite well with about a dozen Airdrie Army Cadets currently taking part. They meet at supply in the basement of the Airdrie Agriculture building every Tuesday nigh from 1830 to 2100 (6:30pm to 9pm). For more information, see the Pipes and Drums page.
There are free Highland Pipe and Drum lessons for cadets every Monday night from 1830 to 2100 (6:30pm to 9pm) at the Mewata Armory in downtown Calgary provided by the 2137 Calgary Highlanders Cadets based at the armory. While these classes are free for all Airdrie Army Cadets, it does require a commitment to attend as consistent practice.
Currently we have a high level of interest and have approximately 20 cadets who have expressed an interest in signing up. We are now looking for parent volunteers to drive the cadets to and from the Mewata Armory each Monday night for the weekly practice. If you are available and can commit to assisting regularly, please contact OCdt. Taylor as soon as possible so that we can figure out a car pool and get this started.
If there is continued enthusiasm and interest by all Cadets attending pipes and drums through out the year, next year our Corps will look into getting instructors that can come to Airdrie to teach the required skills.
Below is a short video of WO Taylor and Dakota White (formerly 2137 Calgary Highlanders Cadets and now a Calgary Highlander) playing at last year’s ACR.
Here is a quick video of WO Taylor (Airdrie Army Cadets) and Dakota White (formerly 2137 Calgary Highlanders Cadets and now a Calgary Highlander) playing at the Airdrie Army Cadets’ Annual Cerimonial Review (ACR) at Mewata Armoury. After they had marched out with the corps, they came back in and played for us for a bit. These two certainly set the tone for the ACR and I can not imagine what it would have been like without them.
A special huge thanks to Dakota White for playing for us.
