FTX This weekend.

March 24, 2011 in Notices

Just a reminder that there is a FTX this weekend.  Since we were not able to have a kit check at regular parade this week, there will be a kit check before you are allowed to go to the FTX.  Cadets who are missing equipment may have to get a parent to get it or might not be allowed to go.

Here is a link to the FTX Packing list.

MANDATORY Field Exercise Oct 1-3. Kit inspection Sept 29.

September 25, 2010 in Events, Notices, Training

Next weekend 1-3 Oct MANDATORY Field Exercise 1700 drop off at the back loading dock of the AG building (19 East Lake Ramp) pick up at 1500 same place on 3 Oct.  Here is a link to the Kit List (things to bring), cadets will have to bring their kit in a duffle bag next Wed (29 Sept) and we will do a kit inspection to make sure cadets have everything they need.  NO FOOD, KNIVES, ELECTRONICS, NO JEANS or money!  Anyone with medication can give it to Captain Tanya Mark who is a nurse and the medical officer.  We cannot give any drugs to your kids without your knowledge, eg tylenol or advil.  Please write a list of the medicine and timings it should be given.

Cadets will be provided:

  • Sleeping bags
  • Ruck sacks
  • Parkas
  • mitts (cadets must bring a extra pair though)
  • Boots (cadets must bring 2 pairs of footwear, running shoes, hiking boots)

From the Ag building, the cadets will be bused to Camp Howard, a cadet camp operated by the Alberta Army Cadet League and located approximately 80km northwest of Cochrane, Alberta, in the Waiparous Creek Forestry Area.

The dress is “Field Training Dress” as described on the Regular Army Cadet Uniform page.  The main thing is No Jeans.  When jeans get wet, they just take a long time to dry and are not very good for the outdoor activities that the cadets will be doing.  Generally, most cadets choose to go to somewhere like Bass or Crown Surplus and wear some form of camoflage, but that is not required.  If you do get army surplus clothes, please note that in order to avoid having cadets confused with active service personell, no CADPAT (the camo worn by the officers) or active forces unifoms are allowed.

Why are the exercises mandatory you ask?  A lot of the Canadian Army Cadet program involves learning a certain curiculum of knowledge in order to earn badges as well as promotions.  If cadets do not attend the exercises, then they will miss the lessons and might not qualify for their promotions.  So, we ask that all cadets do their best to attend the exercises.  However, we do realize that cadets have other commitments and if cadets need to be dropped off late or picked up from camp, arrangements can be made with Captain Mark.

Field Exercises this Weekend.

Just a couple of quick notes for parents.

First of all, the cadets are expecting to be ready for pickup at the Airdrie Agriculture building around 2:30 on Sunday, April 18th.

Secondly, the weather at the Alford Lake Conservation Education Center for Excellence (Aka “Alford Lake Hunter Ed Camp”) looks great this weekend so the Airdrie Cadets should have a great time.  Since the weather is so nice, cadets ranked Master Corporal and above will likely be doing survival training with Sgt Russel.
