Silver Star
This is the third cadet level
PO 401 – Drill (156 Kb)
Now that a cadet is in silver star they are well on their way to being a senior cadet. This means that they will have to command cadets on the parade square. Drill in silver star imparts the ability to order a platoon on parade and understand platoon formations.
PO 402 – Fundamental Training (260 Kb)
Now that cadets have an increased level of responsibility, cadets in silver star will learn about the duties and responsibilities of an NCO, and learn about the decorations, medals and awards of the Canadian Forces.
PO 403 – Bushcraft (530 Kb)
Survival psychology, predicting changes in weather and judging distance are some of the topics covered in silver star. Being comfortable and effective in the field is essential to all army cadets and their skills will continue to grow as they progresses through the star levels.
PO 405 – Map & Compass (322 Kb)
In silver star, map and compass increases in difficulty. Measuring a grid bearing and converting grid bearings to magnetic bearings and vice versa. These are skills that will be necessary to successfully pass the National Star Certification Examination.
PO 406 – Marksmanship (247 Kb)
Further marksmanship skills are developed during this portion of silver star. Cadets are given the opportunity to hone their ability.

Leadership is an important aspect of being a senior cadet. Silver star cadets are well on their way to becoming the leadership of the cadet corps. Here cadets learn to define leadership, management and command, understand the three styles of leadership, supervising cadets and solving problems.
PO 412 – Citizenship (369 Kb)
In silver star, cadets begin to learn about government, including, the different types and the structure of government in Canada.
PO 413 – Physical Fitness (134 Kb)
Any good fitness program includes eating right. This is the key to living a healthy lifestyle. In silver star, cadets learn about healthy eating and living.

For me Ray Mears is the finest exponent of Bushcraft skills. His television series have done much to inform people and popularise interest in the outdoors, bushcraft and the skills of indigenous peoples.
